Report B – Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Technology Assessment for the Pacific

This report builds upon the findings from the first report, by providing an assessment of the status of current and emerging H2 technologies and their applicability from the context of the Pacific Island. The assessment relies on a detailed techno-economic overview of literature, commercial technology, and stakeholder engagement. A key contribution is a summary statement of these technologies through a multicriteria assessment framework that is based on specialised metrics that reflect the key techno-economic challenges and potential benefits of each considered technology. Report A – The Case for Green Hydrogen in the Pacific

This report provides a broad overview of the potential opportunity for hydrogen and derivatives to displace fossil fuels in the PICTs in these hard to electrify sectors, undertaking a preliminary analysis for 13 selected countries and territories in the PICTs region. The report provides a discussion on the PICT’s renewable energy resources (including solar, wind, and bioenergy resources), the energy demand by sector, and NDCs/energy policy, to highlight the potential for H2 and derivatives. The development of the Pacific Hydrogen Strategy is being led by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney consortia, supported by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) the Pacific Community (SPC), and the University of South Pacific (USP). The Strategy is being funded by Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW)
